Had to try all those weight machines at SHARC tonight as Brandon showed us his routine! Of course this was AFTER doing HIIT and strength training earlier today. I'm just gonna break out the Advil now in prep for tomorrow's early morning Zumba class and afternoon hike.

So the recent skiing post, I reveled in the fact that I skied for 3 days virtually pain thing, YUP this is a good thing, It shows how far I've come.
So why the "not so fast.." ? We got home Monday and I was feeling terrific and today, two days later, I'm in complete pain. Why? What gives? Well, to be exact: a 20 minute strength training session and 3 group classes (strength and balance; yoga; zumba) Whoa! Wait a second! Let me say that again, I skied for 3 days without much more than a smidge of pain and then I do a bit more than 2 hours of exercise - and most of the pain was after the first day (strength training and strength / balance group class). What the Heck? Is this good? Absolutely it is good! It means I'm getting stronger. The strength training has been getting easier, so I've increased the weights and reps ... Gotta go over the plan with Karen. So, that is definitely a part of it. The class had a bunch of squats which I attacked as best I could. It's just the pain, the pain, the pain.... well not really that bad - just a bit foreign of late. So this is a great reminder that Yes, pain is expected and it means you're getting stronger and mixing it up is a good thing. Just spent 3 days skiing... and felt absolutely fantastic! Two years ago I was in pain after only a half day of skiing. At the end of the day, simply going up and down stairs was unpleasant to put it mildly! I was one of the slowest in the group not because I didn't know how to ski, but because my muscles were too out of shape to handle the demand that skiing put on them. I'd go down 1/3 of the hill before needing to stop to rest the burning quads or calves. Figured I was just too old for this sport. This year went top to bottom all day long every day ~ virtually no pain! Could have absolutely done 3 more days!!! Kept up with my teen and 20-something kids. It all plays together. Everything you do benefits everything else you do, and it is SO WORTH IT! Noticed this the other day and just had to capture. We have a hodge-podge of towels... mostly bath sized but sometimes the occasional beach towel will make it into the mix. Thinking about it after the fact, I'm surprised it took me this long to figure out... but just like the sleeping bag ... I have much more room in a towel... The standard size bath towel - not the beach towel. LOL, just a simple little thing, that so totally not just a simple little thing!
So, I've been at my goal weight for eight months now... I've seen just about all family members in that time, so my current size should not be a surprise to anyone. But with the holidays and seeing everyone, I still got a lot of comments ~ and it never does get old (at least I don't think so) but it seems different. There were more comments like "you're so skinny" or jokingly "I feel like I'm gonna break you" after a hug. I'm actually not sure how I feel about this. I'm in the middle of normal BMI range; Body Fat % last measurement was average (gotta do that again). Are they complimenting me? Or do they think I've gone too far? And.... What did they think before? I really don't know... but what I do know is that I can sustain a HIIT class or a cardio or strength class with the best of them... and some of the best of them are decades younger. I can run a 5K in under 29 minutes (on a good day). I'm working towards a 10K. I have more stamina then I've had in a long time (or ever) for things like skiing or dancing or mountain climbing! I'm very happy with and proud of my new size and more importantly all the health improvements and physical abilities I have accomplished. I'm learning more, trying new things and getting stronger every day.... and, and, and I definitely won't break! FB Status: December 26, 2014 I read an account of a mile-by-mile half marathon through Disney, and it just sounded great. They have sweepers who you have to stay a-head of who run about a 16 minute mile.
Something to work towards! My first goal would be the 10K which I think I could do (run/walk) even today.... Anything more sounds great! Who knows!!! Kids sound interested... of course they do, who wouldn't. Even Brian didn't squelch the idea. Carol still sounds interested... and even mentioned a 10 miler. Full Disclosure: This was discussed over jello-shots at the Harris Annual Holiday Bash! The next morning it still seemed like a good idea. A week later it still seems like a good idea. #craziness #ormaybenot http://www.rundisney.com/disneyworld-marathon/ Doctors records went online!
Found these Body Weight and BMI charts... Kinda cool! Little history.... August 2011 was my worst ever (@ 183)... started working on it and lost 15 pounds... Then, THEN, she adjusted my thyroid meds which either physically, mentally or both adversly effected me back up to 176 in June 2013. Then I got really serious!!!! |
