Whoa...back up a bit the BMI of a teenager and her patients inspire her. Pretty cool. So yeah, that *WAS* the good part. What I hadn't shared with her was that I had actually lost some weight about 4 pounds after a Cleanse, but then I seemed to be putting it back on.... attributed it to a bit of cheating going on and that I needed to keep that under control. I also went in there with some expectations that maybe we could stop the Cholesterol all together. She said Cholesterol was good and that I had some room and we could probably stop... but then... yeah there's always something... then we reviewed the Thyroid.
TSH = 9.8 Whaaaaaaaaaaatttt! How????? In 6 months from 1.67 to 9.8. What did I do? Or what didn't I do? Or was it me? That Cleanse? That cold? That nasty stomach bug? How could I not notice? Of course, now that I know, I feel tired all the time. Which came first the chicken or the egg???
Forsaken by my thyroid!!! After losing 60 pounds... AND reaching goal weight ... AND running loads of races ... AND doing first 10K next week ... AND signing up for Disney Princess Half ... AND donating all those too big clothes NOW my thyroid goes COMPLETELY OUT of WHACK... TSH = 9.8.
I absolutely know that there are worse things than a stupid crap thyroid... But that stupid crap thyroid has been in part holding me back for a lot of years. It took 2 years of very hard work to get me to today and this very thing is what has terrified me through this entire journey --- that my thyroid (it's been under active for 17 years) would completely unravel all the hard work I've done. For me when TSH goes above 3, things start to go down hill. I knew I was more tired but thought it was additional running training for the 10K.
There are theories that weight loss can effect thyroid function, although I don't understand why. And I've maintained for over a year so that blows that theory. Also heard that building muscle mass can effect thyoid function. Well, ok, I could go along with that as I do believe I've built some more muscle this last year especially in lower body. hmmmmm. And Thinking more.. and hoping that the nasty stomach bug I had inhibited the med absorption and that it will all resolve itself and get back on track. Meds have been increased and re-check in 3 months.... but just when I thought I finally had everything under control, this blindsides me! Geesh.
